Delhi, 9 March (H.S): The much-awaited Barauni-Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline (BGPL) is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Assam on Saturday. This project, executed by GAIL (India) Ltd, will connect the North East region to the National Gas Grid, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy infrastructure.
According to AK Tripathi, the executive director (Projects) of GAIL, this pipeline will not only provide a dependable source of clean energy but also contribute to the economic growth and overall well-being of the people in the region. The 718km long pipeline, which passes through Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam, has been built at a cost of Rs 3,992 crore by GAIL, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. With this project, the North East region will now have access to cleaner and more efficient fuel, promoting sustainable development and reducing its carbon footprint.
The inauguration of the BGPL is a significant step towards fulfilling the government’s vision of developing the North East as a hub for economic growth and better quality of life for its people.
