The ministry in a statement on Monday issued the advisory after it noticed several cases of lack of discretion by television channels. According to the ministry, sensitive portrayal of accidents, deaths and violence including violence against women, children and the elderly cannot be done.
The ministry has issued a release saying that television channels have shown pictures and videos of dead bodies of persons and injured persons with blood splattered all around. Along with this, videos of people being thrashed in close-up shots were also aired which disturbed the people. According to the ministry, such news can also have an adverse psychological effect on children. At the same time, there is also a significant issue of invasion of privacy which can potentially be scandalous and defamatory.
