Free movement between India and Myanmar will end

Delhi, 8 February (HS): The union Home Ministry has decided that the free movement arrangement between India and Myanmar will be scrapped in order to ensure the internal security of the country and maintain the demographic structure in the north-eastern states.

Home Minister Amit Shah gave this information on Twitter. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved to secure our border. He said that the Ministry of External Affairs is currently in the process of ending it. In such a situation, the Home Ministry has recommended the immediate suspension of free movement.

It is noteworthy that earlier, the Home Ministry had decided to erect fencing along the country’s 1643-km border with Myanmar. Along with this, a patrolling track will also be built on the border to facilitate monitoring. Of the total length of the border, 10 km of fencing has already been erected in Moreh, Manipur.
