In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party’s high command is set to gather in Delhi this Thursday for a pivotal meeting aimed at finalizing its candidate list. Amid widespread speculation, eyes are on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, with discussions anticipated about their potential representation from Uttar Pradesh. This marks the inaugural session of the Central Election Committee (CEC), tasked with the candidate selection process for the parliamentary contests.
Jairam Ramesh, the AICC general secretary, confirmed the meeting for 6 pm, highlighting attendance from key figures such as party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside former presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
While the Congress is yet to unveil its candidates, the BJP has already made public its first roster of 195 contenders for the electoral fray. The forthcoming meeting is critical for Congress, poised to outline its electoral strategy and combat readiness against its main competitor.
