New Delhi, March 6 (H.S): This Wednesday will see President Droupadi Murmu presenting the esteemed Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards to 94 notable artists for their exceptional contributions to the performing arts for the years 2022 and 2023. These accolades, established in 1952, signify the pinnacle of achievement and recognition in the realm of Indian performing arts. Moreover, President Murmu will confer the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (Akademi Ratna) on seven eminent artists, including a joint fellowship, during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan. The event will be graced by the presence of Union Minister for Culture G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Culture Secretary Govind Mohan, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Chairman Sandhya Purecha. The fellowship includes a cash award of Rs 3 lakh, while the Akademi Award recipients receive Rs 1 lakh, a tamrapatra (copper plaque), and an angavastram (scarf).
These distinguished awards not only acknowledge the remarkable achievements of individual artists but also serve to motivate and inspire continued excellence within the artistic community. The event underscores the significant contribution of performing arts to the cultural fabric of India, celebrating its rich and diverse heritage.
