On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch two significant projects under Coal India in Jharkhand, with a combined investment of approximately Rs 1,200 crore. According to an official release, these initiatives are designed to enhance the transportation of coal in the region. The Tori-Shivpur third Rail Line, stretching across the Chatra and Latehar districts, represents one of these ventures. This 44.37 km long dedicated coal corridor, a branch of Coal India Limited (CIL), features six intermediate stations and aims to support the removal of 100 million tonnes of coal annually from existing and future mines.
With an investment of Rs 894 crore, the project is expected to not only serve the existing coal mines but also to increase the transport capacity for new commercial ventures. The current coal transportation capacity from the North Karanpura coalfields of CCL is about 45 MTPA, as stated by the Coal Ministry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of these projects is anticipated to significantly enhance Jharkhand’s coal industry and contribute to the national energy requirements.
