India’s One Crore Households to Receive Free Electricity with Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana!

Delhi, 1 February (H.S): On Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana, which aims to provide rooftop solar systems to one crore households in India.

This will enable these households to obtain up to 300 units of free electricity every month, resulting in a savings of Rs 15,000-18,000 annually. The scheme, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January, follows his resolve on the day of the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

In addition to providing free solar electricity, the scheme will also create opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment for the youth in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of these systems.

In line with India’s commitment to achieve ‘net-zero’ emissions by 2070, the Finance Minister also announced a viability gap funding for harnessing offshore wind energy potential. India has already made significant progress in renewable energy with over 73 GW installed solar capacity and around 45 GW wind energy capacity. The Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana is a crucial step towards promoting clean and sustainable energy sources in the country.
