Google Launches ‘Shakti’ Initiative to Combat Deepfakes & Misinformation During India’s Lok Sabha Elections

Google has announced its support for the ‘Shakti, India Election Fact-Checking Collective’, a consortium aimed at fighting the spread of deepfakes and misinformation ahead of India’s Lok Sabha elections. This initiative, led by DataLEADS and supported by Google’s News Initiative, will bring together news publishers, fact-checkers, and tech tools to share fact checks and resources in multiple Indian languages. The collaboration focuses on advanced fact-checking training and deepfake detection, aiming to reach diverse audiences and ensure access to trustworthy information.
