In New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Central Election Committee (CEC), under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior party figures, convened at the party headquarters to deliberate and decide on the preliminary roster of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The extensive meeting, which spanned more than four hours on Thursday evening, saw the participation of key party figures including J P Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, along with notable state leaders such as Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
With an eye on contesting a considerable number of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, the party is poised to nominate many union ministers as candidates, following its policy of refreshing faces in lieu of offering another term in the recent Rajya Sabha elections. The candidate selection process is pivotal for the BJP, potentially determining its success in the elections.
The focus now shifts to the party’s strategic choices, whether it will introduce new contenders or rely on its established leaders for the electoral battle. The outcomes of the CEC’s discussions are highly anticipated, marking a significant step in formulating the BJP’s approach for the Lok Sabha elections.
