Kabul, 20 Feb (HS): At least 25 people died in a landslide caused by heavy snowfall on Monday in Nuristan in Eastern Afghanistan. Eight others were injured. Overnight heavy snowfall filled Nakre village in the Tatin Valley of Nuristan with snow and rubble.
According to Afghanistan Times and Tolonews, the number of casualties may increase as there is no break in the snowfall. About 20 homes were damaged. Several families were displaced by this unseasonal natural calamity.
The rescue operations were affected due to heavy inclement weather. Helicopters could land in the Nuristan. The roads are also blocked in the hilly Nuristan area. About 30 people are suspected to be under the rubble.
