At least 64 killed in tribal conflict in Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby, 19 Feb (HS): Police found 64 bodies in Papua New Guinea highlands, following a gun battle between two tribal communities. The number of casualties could be more in the ambush early on Sunday.

The incident occurred near Wabag, 600 Km northwest of Port Moresby. Police received videos and photographs from the site. The conflict between Sikin, Ambulin, and Kaekin tribal escalated.

The weapons like SLR, AK-47, M4, AR15 and M16 rifles, home-made grenades etc were used in the fighting. Papua New Guinea?s highlands have been the scene of persistent tribal violence, with several mass killings in recent years.
