A devastating fire in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 44 lives, with more than 20 people suffering serious injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday night at a commercial building located on Bailey Road. According to Dhaka Tribune, the blaze initiated on the building’s seventh floor, which housed several eateries. Firefighting teams managed to rescue 70 individuals from the inferno, with 42 found in an unconscious state. The fire reportedly started at the Green Cosy Cottage, a spot on the seventh floor, within a building that accommodates six dining establishments, as well as the Gadget Gear, Samsung, and Eline Garment showrooms, most of which were completely destroyed by the fire.
Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen, local legislator AFM Bahauddin Nasim, and other high-ranking officials have visited the scene. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the fire initially broke out on the first floor, rapidly spreading throughout the entire building. The injured have been transported to various medical facilities, and there are concerns that the death toll may rise.
