Moscow, March 1 (HS): Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to engage in discussions on arms control with the United States, concurrently cautioning the West about the potential for nuclear conflict should NATO forces be deployed in Ukraine.
According to The New York Times, Putin’s yearly national address was broadcast live, where he discussed Russia’s path forward, particularly with an upcoming March election. With no significant opposition, Putin is poised for a fifth term. He highlighted a comment made by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine, suggesting such actions could escalate to nuclear war and result in “our civilization’s destruction.”
In the ongoing conflict with Ukraine over the past two years, Russia has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of a nuclear confrontation with the USA. This Thursday, Putin showed a willingness to restart arms control negotiations with Western countries. Meanwhile, the United States is reconsidering its arms supply strategy to Ukraine.
