“I am truly blessed to be representing South Mumbai, a constituency that is a melting pot of dreams and realities. It is not just a bustling financial district but a land of grand colonial buildings, soaring skyscrapers that share space with cramped chawls, single-room dwellings and slums. It is a crucible that has incubated countless success stories of aspiring actors to enterprising entrepreneurs,” said Mahayuti’s Mumbai South constituency candidate Yamini Jadhav.
Addressing Diverse Needs
During her campaign rally at Malabar Hill in South Mumbai on Sunday, she was accompanied by minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha. When asked about her vision for development of South Mumbai, the sitting MLA from Byculla Assembly constituency Yamini Jadhav said that her preference will be to redevelop the old and dilapidated structures that require not just repairs but complete reconstruction. “This constituency has a perfect blend – elite population living in Cuffe Parade, Malabar Hill areas, middle and the working-class people living in Girgaum, Sewri, Byculla areas and the slums staying in Gaothans of Colaba and parts of Mazgaon, Dongri, etc. And hence the issues here are also diverse. While there is a need to focus on upgradation of public health care, affordable housing, revamping old buildings and bridges, redeveloping cessed and tenanted buildings like BDD Chawls, BIT Chawls and those owned by the Mumbai Port Authority there is also a need to focus on heritage conservation, open spaces, parking and traffic woes. Expeditious completion of the much-touted projects – the Mumbai Coastal Road and Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is one of the prime objectives.”
Key Priorities
Besides its vibrant charm, South Mumbai faces a lot of challenges with regard to infrastructure development and pollution. “But in recent years, i.e. since the time chief minister Hon’ble Eknath Shinde took the reins in his hands, concerted efforts are being made to address these issues through ambitious projects and innovative initiatives and if things work as planned, very soon South Mumbai will get a facelift,” Yamini Jadhav expressed confidence.
Combatting Pollution
Pollution is also another issue that needs immediate redressal. One such initiative was to wash city roads to reduce dust particles and improve air quality index. “Our government also imposed stringent regulations on construction activities and instructed builders to adopt sustainable practices to minimize dust emissions. This has significantly reduced pollution levels across South Mumbai, said Jadhav.
When asked about her development agenda while going before the electorates, Yamini Jadhav said, “I think that our work must speak volumes. I do not believe in distributing manifestos to the voters. I firmly believe that people’s issues are my issues and hence my focus is to provide amenities to people and not just mere assurances.”
