Modi's New Cabinet: Key Players And Potential Surprises In BJP's Strategic Reshuffle

What Is The Situation ? Modi’s New Cabinet: Key Players and Potential Surprises

New Delhi, 9 June (HS): Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Ravneet Singh Bittu, all BJP heavyweights, may be among the new faces on the union Council of Ministers, which will be sworn in on Sunday evening with Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi. Senior party officials like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Mansukh Mandaviya are regarded as certainties in the administration, according to sources.

According to reports, Shiv Sena’s Prataprao Jadhav, BJP’s C R Paatil, head of its Gujarat unit, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Rao Inderjit Singh, Nityanand Rai, Bhagirath Choudhary, and Harsh Malhotra may also be appointed as ministers. Most of the leaders named above met Modi over tea, as he has done since 2014 before the Cabinet formation procedure. BJP MPs Jitin Prasada from Uttar Pradesh and Raksha Khadse from Maharashtra are also expected to join the new administration. Khadse told the reporters that she had got a summons to join the government. According to a source, departing finance minister Sitharaman, as well as outgoing ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju, will all take oaths.

Potential Ministerial Picks and Strategic Considerations for BJP’s Cabinet Formation

There is also conjecture inside the BJP that its national president, J P Nadda, whose extended term ends this month and was among the politicians who met with Modi, may be reinstated in the cabinet. He served in the first Modi government until being removed and taking over leadership of the party’s organization in 2019.

Allies include TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu and Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, JD(U)’s Lalan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur, as well as Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, H D Kumaraswamy, and Jayant Chaudhary, are being considered for ministerial positions. Bittu, the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, lost the Lok Sabha election but might be admitted owing to his prominence as the BJP seeks to expand its presence in Punjab.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar and G Kishan Reddy, both elected from Telangana, were seen going together for Modi’s house, and people close to them suggested they may be inducted as ministers. However, there has been no official statement about potential ministers. When selecting ministers, the BJP must consider its shocking defeats in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
