Loksabha Elections 2024 : Palghar Assembly Elections Update
Much after the local political party, the Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi (BVA) announced their nominations, the BJP selected Dr. Hemant Savara as their candidate for the Indian General Elections 2024 from Palghar constituency. He is the son of late Vishnu Savara, who held positions like Tribal Development Minister and also Guardian Minister and was also an MLA. Vishnu Savra along with late Chintaman Vanga helped the BJP rise in Palghar district, which was earlier part of Thane District.
Choice of Dr. Hemant Savara in Parliament Elections 2024
Though Hemant is very strong academically, the same cannot be said regarding his political journey. In the past he has lost elections and cannot be termed as a strong candidate as compared to the list of his fellow contestants Bharati Kamadi from the Uddhav faction and Rajesh Patil from the BVA. In fact he had lost the previous edition of assembly elections from the Vikramgarh assembly against the NCP with a huge margin and locals were surprised with this pick.
The BJP has been weak in Palghar district for the last decade as they have been found supporting their alliance, instead of a straight contest. Even though there has been an administrator’s rule in the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC), there was only one corporator, Kiran Bhoir, out of the total strength of 115. VVCMC is an urban location of Palghar district which boasts of a population crossing 30 lakhs. Last they had two MLA’s, which was in 2014, in the form of Paskal Dhanare from Dahanu assembly and Vishnu Savara from Vikramgarh assembly and both these seats were lost in 2019 elections to CPI (M) and the NCP respectively.
It has always been surprising with so many international projects like the Bullet Train, the Vadhvan port and the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the state leadership always ignored Palghar district for the last decade. Now it would be interesting to see how the BJP would fight this contest as the BVA has its ground presence with 3 assembly seats in Vasai, Nalasopara and Boisar, while the Uddhav faction and the CPI(M) control the rest of the district and given the fact that Dr. Hemant Savara has lost more elections than he has won. Heading the party BVA, Hitendra Thakur has been confident enough as he has a karyakarta in almost every household in the city limits of Vasai Virar, Boisar and Palghar taluka.
On the other hand, the sitting MP Rajendra Gavit was never seen amongst the news trying to make efforts with regards to eradication of malnutrition, something that has been bothering this district for quite some time, or any other major issue which could have a decent memory of his work done. Though he was seen sulking post nomination being declined, he was pacified by the seniors in the BJP and made his presence in a public rally in Vasai taluka.
