It is time for Political realignment in Kerala

Left Democratic Front (LDF)

Thiruvananthapuram, 25 November (H.S): The simmering discontentment in the constituents of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala is all set to explode in the coming weeks which is likely to see a realignment among both Fronts.

The CPI, the poor cousins of the CPI-M, is peeved over the latter?s infatuation with Muslim League, the second largest partner in the opposition UDF led by Congress. In its bid to increase the seat share in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the CPI-M, which is on the verge of losing its status as a political party recognised by the Election Commission of India, leaves no chance in capitulating before the Muslim League, a cadre-based outfit which is the major force in the northern districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi who represents the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, could make it to parliament only with the support extended by Muslim League. The League leadership was under the impression that the Congress would sweep the 2019 polls but the people in North India saw the writing on the wall and re-elected the BJP for a second term.

It is to keep the Muslim League in good humour that the CPI-M went out of the way and described the dreaded outfit Hamas as angels of peace and freedom fighters. Right now, the CPI-M is busy organising public rallies to express the comrades? solidarity and servility towards the Hamas.

The Muslim League has already gone public with its demand that the Congress should allocate it three seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Till now, the Congress has been allocating the two constituencies of Malappuram and Ponnani (both known as mini-Pakistan of Kerala because of the monopoly enjoyed by the community in these places).

The CPI-M, it is believed that, is willing to allocate even four seats to the Muslim League in the upcoming election. Former leaders of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Popular Front of India (PFI), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have joined the CPI-M and are occupying strategic positions in that party. With their clouts, they can make the Marxist leadership dance to their tunes.

The CPI is a party of leaders and does not have any cadres. The CPI-M treats the party like extra luggage as the party has no presence anywhere in the State despite the leaders like Binoy Viswam MP and D Raja considering themselves as the ideal persons to become the Prime Minister of the country.

The Congress and the CPI enjoy good working relationship as both the outfits are supporting the concept of making India tukde tukde. Even if the CPI moves over to the Congress camp in Kerala, it would not make any impact in the national politics as the former, the CPI-M, Muslim League are all constituents of the INDI alliance at the Centre.
