Visakhapatnam / New Delhi, 25 November (HS): Police have solved the mystery of the fire that broke out in 30 fishing boats at Visakhapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh on the night of 19 November. Two people responsible for this incident have been arrested.
This information was given by Police Commissioner (CP) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar in a press conference on Saturday. Disclosing the cause of the fire, he said that the fire was caused by a burning cigarette. The nylon net caught fire after coming in contact with a burning cigarette, completely burning 30 nearby boats.
Police Commissioner said that two accused Vasupalli Nani and Satyam have been arrested in this incident. Both of them had been drinking since morning on the day of the incident and had reached there in boat number 885. Where they cooked fish and also drank wine. Smoked with it. During this, the burnt cigarette was thrown on the fishing net on the adjacent boat. There was a nylon net, which was highly flammable. In this way that particular trap caught fire. From there the fire spread to the fuel tank and diesel fuel. Then the fire engulfed the nearby boats.
He said that after the incident both the accused went home on their motorcycle. However, later they came to the spot again. The crime was detected along with the crime scene with the help of technical evidence using CCTV footage along with tower dump analysis and call detail analysis, he said. Altogether 30 boats were completely burnt. These are all mechanized boats. Apart from this, 18 other boats were partially burnt. At present, the government has given due consideration to the victims and has given them the necessary compensation.
