12 TMC workers get life imprisonment for lynching CPM worker

Birbhum, December 22 (HS): Additional District Sessions Judge Gurudas Biswas of Rampurhat Divisional Court on Friday sentenced 12 Trinamool workers to life imprisonment for beating a CPM worker to death during the 2013 Panchayat elections.

Notably, after the change of power in the state, the first Panchayat elections were held in the year 2013. On July 23, the next day after the election results were declared, CPM worker Humayun Mir, a resident of Saipur village of Rampurhat police station in Birbhum district, was fatally attacked by Trinamool workers with lethal weapons.

The injured CPM worker was admitted to Burdwan Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on July 24. After the incident, the deceased’s sister Jasmina Khatoon lodged an FIR with Rampurhat police station alleging 14 people for her brother’s murder. Two accused died during the hearing of the case. On July 20, the judge had convicted the remaining 12 accused.

Finally, Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Gurudas Biswas on Friday sentenced 12 people to life imprisonment.
