What exactly happened ? The Fake Cops arrested!

Sion police have apprehended 6 individuals, including one active and one retired cop, for robbing a hotelier in Matunga of 25 lakhs. They stormed into his home in Sion, alleging he had stashed cash for the Lok Sabha elections, while conducting this fake raid. There, they extorted 25 lakhs to avoid reporting the incident and promptly fled. The hotelier later realized the robbery and reported it to the Sion police station. Surprisingly, the mastermind behind the scheme was the former manager of the hotel, who was familiar with the hotel’s operations. Their plan backfired as they used a police jeep to reach the hotelier’s home, convincing him they were genuine cops.

Where did the robbery happened ? Who are the culprits ?

Naresh Nayak, owner of Café Mysore, one of the oldest and renowned eateries in Matunga, was approached by a team of 6 posing as cops, accusing him of hoarding cash for the Lok Sabha elections. After convincing him that they were a real legal team, they coerced him to settle the matter. Among the arrested are Babasaheb Bhagwat (50), currently employed in the motor vehicles department, persuaded by retired cop Dinkar Salvi (60) from the same department. Others include Vasant Naik (52), Niraj Khandagle (34), Shyam Gaikwad (50), and Sagar Redekar (42). Vasant Naik, a former employee of Café Mysore, orchestrated the plan after being dismissed from his job a few months prior.

Ongoing Investigation by Sion Police

Police and forensic experts examined the scene and CCTV footage of Naresh Nayak’s residence. Initial investigations revealed the involvement of some police officers in the crime. Retired and active police officers were arrested by the Sion police late at night. The Sion police have registered a case under IPC sections 170, 420, 452, 506, and 34 and are conducting further investigations after apprehending the 6 suspects.
