Delhi/Belagavi, 15 December (H.S): The National Commission for Women (NCW) has announced that they will be launching an investigation into the disturbing incident that took place in Vantamuri village, Belagavi district, where a Dalit woman was reportedly assaulted, paraded naked, and tied to an electric pole.
On December 11th, the incident occurred as retaliation for the elopement of the woman’s son with a girl who was promised to another. Following the incident, eight people have been arrested, and a search is ongoing for eight others involved. The Karnataka High Court has also taken up the matter independently. BJP national president JP Nadda has condemned the incident as “shameful” and formed a five-member fact-finding committee to visit the village and submit a detailed report. According to BJP national general secretary Arun Singh, such heinous crimes against women have become a recurring issue since Congress assumed power in the state.
The incident highlights the lack of action from Congress governments nationwide in addressing such crimes. BJP MPs from Karnataka have protested in the Parliament complex, with former chief minister Sadananda Gowda stating that the law and order situation in Karnataka has collapsed.
The fact-finding committee consists of BJP MPs Aprajita Sarangi, Sunita Duggal, Locket Chatterjee, Ranjeeta Koli and party national secretary Asha Lakra.
