New Delhi, 11 November (HS): Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR after the uproar over a deepfake AI-generated video of South actress Rashmika Mandanna. According to Delhi Police, the Special Cell registered a case in this regard under sections 465 and 469 of the IPC, 1860, and sections 66C and 66E of the IT Act, 2000.
It is noteworthy that Rashmika’s deep-fake video shows a woman in black clothes inside an elevator. Her face was edited with the help of AI to look like Rashmika Mandanna. In this, the face was of Mandana, while the body was of another woman. It was edited in such a way that it appeared to be Rashmika Mandanna’s video.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan had expressed his displeasure over this and demanded legal action. Taking suo motu cognizance, the Chairperson of the Delhi Women Commission issued a notice to the Delhi Police on Friday seeking their reply. The Women’s Commission has asked the police for a copy of the FIR registered in the case, information about the accused, and a report of the action taken in this regard by November 17.
What is Deepfake?
Fitting someone else’s face into a real video is called Deepfake. For this, the help of technology coder and decoder technology is taken. The decoder first examines the facial expressions and structure of a person. After this, it is applied to another face. In this way, identical fake videos and photos can be made.
