Muladhar Chakra
The symbol of the root chakra: It is also known as Muladhara in Sanskrit and is a lotus flower with four petals. Inside the lotus is a downward-pointing triangle, which represents the grounding and stabilizing energy of the root chakra. The downward-pointing triangle is also a symbol of feminine power and the creative potential that is often associated with the root chakra. The color associated with the root chakra is red, representing the vitality, strength, and passion related to this energy center. When the root chakra is balanced, we feel grounded, secure, and able to meet our basic needs.
Located at the base of the spine and is associated with the color red. It represents our sense of security, grounding, and survival.

Mantra: The seed mantra (beej mantra) of Muladhara Chakra is the ‘Lam’ Mantra.

- Start with a simple meditation and imagine a bright red light at the base of your tailbone.
- Start doing Dance This is one of the best ways to become more comfortable in your body
- Do yogas and Mudras
- Take a shower.
- Saying affirmations can help you stay positive and affirm that you are on the right path.
- You can balance this chakra by practising grounding exercises, such as walking barefoot on grass and spending time in nature
Yoga poses to activate the root chakra: There are several yoga poses that can help activate and balance the root chakra (Muladhara).
Tadasana (Mountain Pose): Stand with your feet hip-width apart, grounding down through your feet and lifting through the crown of your head. This pose helps to cultivate a sense of grounding and stability, which is associated with the root chakra.
Malasana (Garland Pose): Squat down with your feet as close together as possible, keeping your heels on the floor. Bring your palms together at your heart centre, pressing your elbows against your inner thighs. This pose helps to activate the root chakra while also stretching the hips and thighs.
Virabhadrasana I (Warrior I): Step one foot back into a lunge, keeping your front knee bent at a 90-degree angle. Lift your arms overhead, reaching up through your fingertips. This pose helps to cultivate strength and stability, which is associated with the root chakra.
Balasana (Child’s Pose): Kneel down with your toes together and your knees apart. Lower your hips back onto your heels, reaching your arms forward and resting your forehead on the mat. This pose helps to release tension in the hips and lower back, which can help to activate the root chakra.
Vrksasana (Tree Pose): Stand with your feet hip-width apart, rooting down through your left foot. Bring your right foot to rest on your left thigh, pressing your foot into your thigh and bringing your hands to your heart centre. This pose helps to cultivate balance and stability, which is associated with the root chakra.
