Roof Collapse of Terminal 1 at Delhi International Airport

New Delhi: 1 person getting killed and around half a dozen getting injured are being reported after the roof of the Terminal – 1 came crashing down around 5am today early morning. The airport authorities have closed down that section for travellers and have also confirmed that All departing flights from T1 of IndiGo and SpiceJet have been cancelled till 2 pm today. Delhi has been hit with incessant rainfall of 100mms and above since yesterday night. Roads have been flooded, traffic is seen and now this roof collapse has put the entire Delhi Bureaucracy and Politicians on high alert, while the common man is seen fighting it out on the streets to reach their respective destinations.

The X handle of the airport posted the below message on their handle: “Due to this roof collapse at the Terminal – 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport several parked vehicles were seen crushed. One dreadful photograph of a person sitting in the car, with the collapsed beam of roof, on his car roof is doing the rounds on social media, which depicts the situation. Due to heavy rain since early morning, a portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed around 5am. There are injuries reported, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected. As a result of this incident, all departures fromTerminal 1 are temporarily suspended, and check-in counters are closed as a safety measures. We sincerely regret this disruption and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
