Delhi, 14 March (H.S): The high-level committee on simultaneous polls, chaired by former president Ram Nath Kovind, is expected to present its report on the concept of ‘one nation, one election’ on Thursday. While there has been no official confirmation, sources suggest that the report may be submitted to President Droupadi Murmu.
The committee’s recommendations are likely to include amendments to at least five articles of the Constitution in order to facilitate simultaneous elections across the country. Additionally, the report is expected to propose the implementation of a unified electoral roll for conducting elections at the national, state, and local levels.
This move towards simultaneous polls has been a topic of discussion and debate for several years, with proponents arguing that it will save time, money and resources. However, the feasibility and implications of such a massive electoral reform remain to be seen.
