A Jharkhand court has issued a summons to the jailed former Chief Minister Hemant Soren to appear next month, citing his failure to respond to notices from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged land grabbing case.
The complaint by the ED highlights Soren’s non-compliance with seven summonses, starting from August 14 of the previous year, leading to his arrest on January 31 for money laundering, with him now in judicial custody. The court has decided to proceed with a case against Soren under section 174 of the Indian Penal Code for not adhering to a public servant’s order, scheduling his court appearance for April 3.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces a similar complaint for ignoring the ED’s summonses, with the next hearing set for March 16. Despite receiving eight summonses, Kejriwal has yet to appear before the ED, declaring the notices illegal.
