Delhi, 5 February (H.S): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to its Lok Sabha MPs, asking them to be present in Parliament today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be delivering his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the Presidential address delivered on January 31, 2024. This follows a meeting held by the Prime Minister with top ministers on February 2 to discuss the government’s strategy in the Parliament.
The meeting was attended by top leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. On Thursday, the government presented its union Budget for 2024-25, focusing on economic policies for growth, inclusive development, and improving productivity. The government also announced its intention to pay special attention to the eastern region of India, including states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal, in its goal to make India a developed country by 2047.
No changes were proposed in tax rates, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the formation of a committee to address challenges related to fast population growth. She also promised to present a white paper comparing the economic performance of the BJP-led government with that of the previous Congress-led UPA government.
This budget marks the end of Modi’s second term as Prime Minister, with Lok Sabha elections expected to take place in April-May this year. Sitharaman expressed confidence in the BJP-led NDA coming to power again.
