Delhi, 2 February (H.S) : Telangana CM Revanth Reddy is set to launch the state Congress’ campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Friday, February 2 at Indravelli in Adilabad district. This event holds great significance for Revanth Reddy, as he will be addressing his first public meeting as TPCC president in the same location.
The campaign launch, which was originally planned for January 26, was postponed due to prior commitments. This will also be the first time a Telangana CM will visit Indravelli since the tragic incident known as the “Indravelli massacre” in 1981. Revanth is expected to lay the foundation stone for a smriti vanam to honor the Indravelli martyrs. The massacre involved a gathering of Gond Adivasis who were demanding land certificates and protesting against encroachments by non-Adivasis.
Despite being granted permission by the police, the rally turned violent and resulted in the death of over 40 Adivasi tribals, according to various sources. While official records state a death toll of 13, the event remains a significant part of Telangana’s history and continues to hold sentimental value for many, including Revanth Reddy.
