Ranchi/Delhi, 2 February (H.S): On Friday, JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren was sworn in as the chief minister of Jharkhand at the Raj Bhavan in the presence of Governor C P Radhakrishnan.
Along with him, senior Congress leader Alamgir Alam and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta also took oath as state ministers. The ceremony was held at the Durbar Hall and was attended by senior leaders of the JMM-led alliance.
At 67 years old, Champai Soren is now the 12th chief minister of the state and also the sixth CM from Jharkhand’s Kolhan region. His appointment came after he urged the governor to accept his claim to form the government amidst an ongoing political crisis. He now has 10 days to prove his government’s majority, according to state Congress chief Rajesh Thakur.
During his oath-taking, Champai Soren expressed confidence in his alliance and stated that they stand united and cannot be broken. It is worth noting that former JMM executive president Hemant Soren, who resigned as chief minister on Wednesday, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of money laundering linked to a land fraud.
