Ranchi, 2 February (H.S): Today marks a significant day for the state of Jharkhand as Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party leader Champai Soren is set to take the oath as the Chief Minister of the state. This comes after Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited Soren to Raj Bhavan on Thursday to form the government.
As per sources, Soren has been given 10 days to prove his government’s majority and it is reported that Congress, a key constituent of the alliance, will play a crucial role in this process. In his request to the governor, Soren emphasized the urgency of appointing a chief minister as the state was facing confusion after his resignation.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place before noon on Friday, just before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra enters the state. In an attempt to safeguard their majority, the alliance has also arranged for their MLAs to be flown out of Jharkhand in chartered planes to prevent any poaching attempts by the BJP. However, amidst these developments, former chief minister Hemant Soren, who is also a JMM leader, has been sent to one-day judicial custody in connection with an alleged land scam case.
This comes after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday following questioning about a money laundering case linked to the same scam. All eyes are now on Soren as he prepares to take charge as the Chief Minister and lead Jharkhand towards progress and development.
