New Delhi, 28 Jan (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, hailed Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his government on Sunday for taking the first step toward justice by paving way for the state’s caste census. Gandhi stated that a caste census is the best way to ensure that all sections of society participate equally in the country’s wealth.
“A census of castes is the first step toward fairness. Because it is hard to establish effective plans for a society if its social and economic health is unknown. A caste census is the only way to ensure equitable participation of all sections of society in the country’s prosperity,” Gandhi wrote on ‘X’ in Hindi. “Congratulations to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Telangana government for taking the first step towards justice,” stated Gandhi.
Reddy stated on Saturday that the Telangana administration would soon conduct a caste census, as promised before the elections. Reddy, who chaired a meeting on problems facing minorities, backward classes, and tribal welfare agencies, urged authorities to begin efforts to conduct a caste census, according to an official statement.
The chief minister also directed authorities to create budget estimates for executing the ‘Kalyanamastu’ plan, which provides one tola (10 grams) of gold and Rs 1 lakh in financial aid to girls from BPL households at the time of their marriage. He asked staff to generate estimates for the finances needed for all sorts of government charity hostels administered by the government.
