Hooghly, 10 December (HS): TMC MP from Serampore Kalyan Banerjee participated in the mass Gita recitation programme organised at Mahesh Jagannath Temple premises on Sunday. TMC MP attended the programme as a representative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
After Vishwashanti Yagya in the morning, Geeta recitation started from 11 am and continued till 12.30pm.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Pradeep Majumdar inaugurated the programme. MP Kalyan Banerjee sat in the Yagya. Serampore MLA Dr. Sudipto Roy, former Governor Shyamal Sen, District Magistrate, SDO and other administrative officers were also present on the occasion.
As per sources, many Trinamool leaders were invited to the programme. But no one from BJP was invited. However, the organizers do not want politics regarding this event. MP Kalyan Banerjee said, ?Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was invited. I was also invited. The Chief Minister had asked me to join the programme as her representative. Everyone has gathered here for world peace. So I joined.?
The MP said that this event is being organized for the last few months. This has nothing to do with politics.
Soumen Adhikari, head Sevayat of the temple, said, ?The fame of Jagannath temple and the chariot has spread further after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee brought Mahesh under the tourism centre. This programme is for the welfare of the country and the state.?
Notably, more than one lakh people are expected to recite holy Gita collectively at Brigade Ground in Kolkata on December 24. PM Modi is also supposed to participate in this programme. Preparations for the programme are in full swing in the entire state.
