Lalitpur, 5 Dec (HS): An investigation was launched after some pieces of the corpse of a 24-year-old woman undergoing autopsy were reportedly chewed away by rats at the morgue of a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district. Anubha Yadav’s body was submitted for autopsy on Saturday after she reportedly committed suicide in the Khailar village.
When her family members arrived at the hospital on Monday, they discovered her dead on the floor, her face largely chewed away by rats. They mounted a demonstration and asked that those responsible for the body’s neglect be held accountable. The issue was addressed after district administration authorities promised to take action. Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmed, the Chief Medical Officer of Lalitpur, created a three-member team to investigate the situation.
“There is a claim that rats nibbled away at body parts. A three-member team is conducting an investigation, and the cause will be revealed soon,” Dr Ahmed stated. He also stated that the committee will investigate why the body was not preserved in a deep freezer at the postmortem home. Meanwhile, reports claim that the postmortem home has six deep freezers, but two of them are non-functional.
According to reports, the police were notified on Saturday that a newlywed woman had reportedly committed suicide. Yadav married about five months ago. A police squad raced to the residence and took the deceased for a postmortem examination, Abhay Narain Rai, Circle Officer, Kotwali, stated.
Yadav’s family has filed a FIR against her husband, Hirdesh Yadav, and three members of his family, accusing them of murder for dowry. “However, a video recovered from Yadav’s mobile phone shows her dying by suicide,” a police official explained. So yet, no arrests have been made in the case, according to Rai.
