Seoul, 05 Dec (HS): In an effort to control the reduced birth rate in North Korea, President Kim Jong Un appealed to women to produce more number of children. Kim addressed women in a national meeting of women on Sunday.
Kim Jong said that controlling the lowering birth rate is by producing more children, their grooming and education is “our family responsibility”.
South Korean Government has estimated continuous lowering of birth rate in North Korea for the last ten years. Exact details about the population in North Korea is difficult to obtain, in the tight economic system.
According to a report North Koreans do not believe in producing more children looking at the expenses on their nurturing and education. North Korea promoted birth control measures through cinema and TV programmes during 1970-80. Hyundai Research Institute based at Seoul, in a report published in August said that the population growth drastically reduced after famine in the 1990s decade after a famine.
