Kolkata, 5 December (HS): Due to the impact of the cyclonic storm “Michong” forming over the Bay of Bengal, coastal districts, including Kolkata, may receive light to moderate rain on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the Meteorological Department, it has been said that the minimum temperature in Kolkata has been recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature has been recorded at 28.9 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.
In a statement issued by the Kolkata Regional Office of the India Meteorological Department (MED), it has been said that due to the impact of the cyclone, apart from the coastal districts, i.e., Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, and East and West Medinipur, they will be affected till tomorrow, i.e., Wednesday.
The Meteorological Department said that the storm is moving in the north-west direction in the south-western part of the Bay of Bengal, which is being continuously monitored.
According to the department, the cyclone is likely to turn again and move northwards after reaching the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh. It is likely to cross the southern Andhra Pradesh coast today as an intense cyclonic storm. Due to the cyclone, rain will continue in the districts of South Bengal on December 6 and 7.
Before this, apart from the capital Kolkata, a slight increase in temperature was also being recorded in other districts, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Jhargram. However, the temperature is low in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar in North Bengal.
