3 child labourers rescued from Bettiah

Bettiah, 30 Nov (HS): Bettiah’s Labour Superintendent Virendra Mahato conducted an intensive investigation campaign in various shops and establishments of Majhoulia block under the leadership of Labor Enforcement Officer Bhim Kumar under Majhoulia block for the release of child labourers.

As part of the investigation, three people were arrested from Majhoulia. The child labourers has been freed. One child laborer each was freed from Tas and Meat House, Majholia and Prajapati Motorcycle Repair Centre, Chini Mill Chowk, Majholia. The released child labourer was presented before the Children’s Home (Child Welfare Committee), Cantonment, Bettiah and has been kept in the Children’s Home as per the instructions. Under the Child and Adolescent Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986, action is being taken to register an FIR against the employer in the concerned police station.

The Labor Superintendent said that employing child laborers to work in any shop or establishment is illegal under the Child and Adolescent Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986 and a fine of ?20,000 to ?50,000 can be imposed on persons employing child laborers. And there is a provision of imprisonment up to two years.

Apart from this, in the light of the order given by the Honorable Supreme Court in M.C. Mehta vs. Government of Tamil Nadu in 1996, a separate amount of ?20000 per child laborer will be recovered from the employers, which will be deposited in the District Child Labor Rehabilitation cum Welfare Fund maintained in the name of the District Magistrate. A certificate case or auction letter case will be filed separately against the employer who does not deposit the amount.

As a member of the raid team Kumari Stuti, Labor Enforcement Officer, Lauria, Pradeep Singh, Labor Enforcement Officer, Sikta, Amit Kumar from Prayas Sanstha, Amar from Pratham Sanstha and Majhaulia police station were included. Intensive investigation was done in all the shops and establishments located in Majhaulia block by the raid team. And an affidavit was made from all the employers not to employ any child labour.

It was told by the Labor Superintendent that the raid team will operate regularly every day under the orders of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and along with Bettiah city. Besides, raid teams will also be operated in all the block headquarters and strict legal action will be taken against the employers employing child labour.
