Sharad Pawar’s stand on Adani would not affect MVA: Sanjay Raut
Mumbai, 8 April (H.S): MP Sanjay Raut of Uddhav Thackeray group has taken a safe stand saying that Maha-Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will not be affected by the statement made by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Supremo Sharad Pawar statement relating to Gautam Adani.
Pawar on Friday said that enquiry through a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Gautam Adani is meaningless. The statement by Pawar during an interview with a television news channel caused panic in political circles, particularly the Maha Vikas Ghadi, to which NCP is a partner. MVA has been demanding enquiry through JPC on relations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani.
Raut said that Pawar might have taken a different stand on the issue, but the demand of MVA for enquiry through JPC will not be diluted. Pawar said that enquiry through the Committee of the Supreme Court would be more effective than the JPC. Pawar’s statement not only shocked the MVA but also the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
Raut said that Pawar’s stand on the issue is not new. BJP is in majority and the report of the JPC would be as per its wishes. Raut also said that the stand would not break the unity among the opposition on the Adani issue.
Pawar during the interview with a news channel said that Hedinberg was not known to anybody prior to the report related to Adani. The JPC will have 15 MPs from BJP and six or seven from the opposition. The result of the enquiry is obvious and has scope for suspicion. Imposing faith in the judiciary Pawar said that enquiry through the Supreme Court’s Committees would be more reliable.
There are 19 political parties in the opposition. All these parties cannot get representation in the JPC. At the most representatives of two parties will be included in the JPC, Pawar replied to a query. Pawar said that inflation, unemployment, and agrarian crisis are more important issues compared to investment by Adani Group.
The contribution of Adani, like Tata and Birla, is important. Earlier similar questions were raised against them. But their contribution to the development of the nation was recognized and criticism stopped, Pawar said.
Pawar’s stand, however, rattled the MVA, for which he is the mentor and guide.
