Rawalpindi, 08 January (HS): Pakistan economic crisis worsens as the price of wheat reaching Rs 5,000 per maund (40 kg), flour is being sold at Rs 150 per kg in the open market here. There is turmoil in Punjab province. A 15-kg bag of wheat is being sold for Rs 2,250 in city-by-city here.
In Pakistan, one ex mill red flour bag is available for Rs 11,650 and the price of one ex mill maida sack has gone up to Rs 13,000. According to Khaliq Arshad, former president of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association, wheat has been sold at Rs 5,400 per head in the open market.
Rawalpindi’s Baker’s Association has said that if the price is not controlled, then it will be forced to increase the price of roti by Rs 5 again. The price of whole grain milled flour has increased to Rs 145 per kg in Lahore.
Khaleque Arshad has said that there is not enough government grain in the market compared to the demand. The Punjab Food Department is issuing hardly 21,000-22,000 tones of wheat. Same is the condition of government wheat price in Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan . The government has delayed the import of wheat. Arshad has said that the Russia-Ukraine war also made wheat imports difficult.
