While a giant hoarding fell at Ghatkopar, injuring around 40 plus bystanders, Construction lift falls with news of injured people coming in at Antophill, tree fall on a parked autorickshaw in Jogeshwari and news coming in four wheeler turning turtle on Lal Baug flyover is also doing the rounds. This is the impact of one sudden heavy rain in Mumbai, which has caught the authorities completely off-guard, questioning the monsoon readiness of Mumbai. Even the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) have suspended their operations for almost an hour due to low visibility and gusty winds.
Weather changed drastically in Mumbai today (May 13) afternoon from scorching heat to strong winds and heavy rain. Almost entire Mumbai witnessed heavy rain with a few parts being flooded, all in an hours time. While the number of the injured is increasing in the hoarding accident, news is also coming in that it was illegal and a detailed inquiry would be conducted. The nearby hoardings would also be audited and their legality would be confirmed said a source.
Airport Operations Halted
The CSMIA has issued a detailed Media Statement which reads as follows: Due to the inclement weather and dust storms in the city, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) temporarily suspended flight operations for around 66 min due to low visibility and gusty winds. Operations resumed at 17:03 hrs. During this time, the airport witnessed 15 diversions. CSMIA last week completed its pre-monsoon runway maintenance successfully, ensuring safe and smooth aircraft operations. Committed to efficiency and passenger safety, the airport remains steadfast to prioritize seamless operations.
Home Minister of India, Amit Shah forced to go by Road.
Amit Shah along with Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, had come to Vasai (Palghar district) for a rally and was to return to Varanasi. However his chopper was forced to cancel its trip due to this sudden change in weather. Shah was then see leaving for Mumbai via road.
