In this bustling metropolis of Mumbai, where every inch of space is a precious commodity, access to public amenities is a crucial issue, especially for women. “As a staunch advocate for women’s rights, I will focus on the most fundamental right of every woman – the ‘right to pee’. Not just for the constituency that I am representing, which in fact is the highest tax paying constituency in the country, but I will ensure that accessible and clean public toilets are available for every woman across the country,” said Mahayuti’s Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency candidate Yamini Yashwant Jadhav.
Campaigning for Change
During her campaign rally at Mumbadevi in South Mumbai on Friday where she was accompanied by popular Marathi actor Varsha Usgaonkar, she assured women electorates present that she would take up this and many other issues that countless women encounter on a day-to-day basis. Jadhav said, “Women across the country, especially those who travel to places for work purposes, face a lot of inconvenience, discomfort and at times even health hazards due to absence of hygienic public toilets. Also, women are made to pay every time they have to use a toilet. My focus, thus, will be to make clean toilets with all the necessary facilities available for women, no matter their socio-economic background.” This firebrand leader has always been at the forefront of executing development works for the people, especially women from her constituency. “Safety of women should and will always be my paramount responsibility. During my tenure as MLA from Byculla constituency, I got LED lights and CCTVs installed,” she said.
From Mumbai to Parliament
“My work goes beyond brick-and-mortar solutions. I have always been vocal even in the Legislative Assembly and I have always pushed the government to initiate policies and regulations that prioritize women’s needs. I have also travelled the lengths and breaths of this state and have taken stock of the situation which will help me in raising their issues at the Parliament,” she said. Yamini Jadhav was also instrumental in providing food truck facilities to women to help them become self-employed under the abled leadership of chief minister Honorable Eknath Shinde. “We believe in empowerment through employment and food trucks is just the beginning,” said Yamini Yashwant Jadhav adding, “I wish to leave a legacy of being a trailblazer for women’s rights.”
Shiv Sena’s Legacy
Talking about being Shiv Sena’s firebrand woman leader, Jadhav said, “Hindu Hridaysamrat venerable BalasahebThackeray always advocated women empowerment and he made sure that women from his party were placed at strategic positions. The love, trust and blessings of revered Balasahebwill always keep us motivated to work.”
