Saregama, the world’s largest owner of Indian TV and film music sound recording and publishing copyrights, has successfully renegotiated its contract with the tech behemoth META. The content from the music label library is now available on Facebook and Instagram. This is confirmed by looking up the platforms, as some of the saregama songs that were previously unavailable are now available.
Saregama and other Indian labels have had tense relationships with global tech platforms eager to license their content for streaming services and short video platforms. Saregama is now the largest global owner of Indian TV and film music sound recording and publishing copyrights. What’s interesting about the company’s extensive catalog, however, is how it was able to monetize it. Since the 2000s, Saregama has successfully experimented with physical formats such as USB music cards.
