Eastern Railway decides to remove 60 water tanks

Kolkata, 19 December (HS): Taking a lesson from the recent incident of water tank collapse at Burdwan station of Howrah division in West Bengal, Eastern Railway has decided to remove all the water tanks located in the station premises of all the stations of Eastern Railway.

According to sources, water tanks made of RCC concrete along with iron will also be removed from the platform or station premises and shifted to another place. Kaushik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, said, ”Eastern Railway considers providing safe travel to the passengers as its first responsibility. For this reason, we have decided that all the water tanks located in the stations or station premises of Eastern Railway will be removed from there and shifted to vacant places.”

”There are a total of 60 water tanks in the station premises of all the stations of Eastern Railway. They will be removed within the next one year. The aim of Railways is to demolish these year old water tanks and build modern water tanks at a safe places,” he added.

Notably, on last December 13, four people lost their lives when a part of the water tank located on platform number 2-3 of Burdwan station of Howrah division collapsed. Many people are still undergoing treatment in hospitals.
