Rudrapur/Udham Singh Nagar, November 7 (HS) : President Droupadi Murmu attended the 35th convocation of Govind Ballabh Pant Agricultural University, Pantnagar, on Tuesday as the chief guest. She said that the number of girls holding degrees in the ceremony is high; this trend is visible in other institutions as well. That means daughters are doing well everywhere. Many congratulations to the daughters on this special achievement.

In this function organised today in the courtyard of the administrative building of the university, the Governor and Chancellor of Uttarakhand, Lt. General Gurmeet Singh (Retd), union Minister of State for Defence and Tourism, Ajay Bhatt, and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Uttarakhand, Ganesh Joshi, also participated.

President Droupadi Murmu, while congratulating all the students and professors who received degrees and medals in the convocation ceremony, said that today the number of girls receiving medals is higher. She said that, as president, she has attended the functions of more than 50 universities, and the girl students have hoisted the flag of their success. She said that the convocation ceremony is an important stage of life for students. On this day, family members and the teachers of the students feel proud.

The President said that the country’s first agricultural university, Pantnagar, has remained a centre of excellence for agriculture, research, and extension since its inception. The seed of Pantnagar University is famous in the world by the name of ‘Pantnagar Seed’, on which farmers trust blindly. She said that the university has introduced a total of 346 improved varieties of various crops, fruits, and vegetables and developed two breeds. This year, the university has developed seven species of pulse crops.

The President said that the entire world is celebrating this year as the International Year of Millets. Uttarakhand is the leading state in the production of coarse grains. Pantnagar University has made a special contribution in bringing the Green Revolution to the country, as a result of which the country has not only become self-reliant in food grain production, but today we are one of the major exporters of agricultural produce. Congratulating all the degree-seeking students, teachers, and their parents, he said that all the students will contribute to making the heritage of a diverse and dynamic country like India more prosperous and the future more powerful.

Take the governor. General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) said that the convocation is not just a ceremony; it is also a celebration of your achievements, knowledge, and determination to achieve excellence. Education is not just about getting a degree; it is also a means of attaining self-knowledge, empowerment, and transformation. Education is not only a means of your livelihood, but it is essential for the welfare of the country.

In the convocation ceremony, degrees and initiation were given to 1041 students. On this occasion, the best graduating student, Neha Bisht, was awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal. Apart from this, 11 students were awarded the Vice Chancellor Gold Medal, 11 students were awarded the Vice Chancellor Silver Medal, and 10 students were awarded the Vice Chancellor Bronze Medal. For excellent work in various fields, one student was given the Saraswati Panda Award, the Smt. Nagamma Shantabai Award, the Dr. Ram Shiromani Tiwari Award, the Chaudhary Charan Singh Memorial Intellectual Award, the Puran Anand Adlakha Award, and the Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Award. Apart from this, two students were also honoured with the Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Award. The registrar, Dr. K.P. Raverkar, conducted the function.
