Piyush Goyal releases ‘Foreign Trade Policy 2023’

New Delhi, 31 March (HS): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal unveiled the ‘Foreign Trade Policy 2023’ at Vanijya Bhawan on Friday. Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel was also present on this occasion.

On this occasion, Goyal said that despite many problems on the international stage, the current financial year 2022-23 has been good for India. “We had set an export target of $750 billion, but it looks like we will reach $765-770 billion,” he added.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has prepared a new Foreign Trade Policy after a gap of three years. Due to Corona, till now only the existing foreign trade policy was in force. It will expire on March 31, 2023.

The new foreign trade policy will be for the next five years. Director General of Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Sarangi said that we have ensured that there is no end date for this policy, it will be updated from time to time.

It is noteworthy that the period of the current last five-year foreign trade policy had ended in March 2020, but due to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic and the lockdown, this policy was extended several times. It was last extended in September 2022 till March 31, 2023.
