Ahmedabad, May 18 (HS): A survey of all the madrassas of Gujarat has been started by the orders of the Principal Secretary of the Education Department of the State Government. Meanwhile, on Saturday, the team doing survey in Sultan Syed Masjid located in Sultan Mohalla of Daryapur was attacked by the mob. A mob of about 10 people attacked Sandeep Patil, a teacher of Smriti School, Bapunagar, who was part of the team. It was told that the teacher was trying to take a photo of the place after the survey, but he was attacked by more than 10 people. Later a crowd of more than 100 people gathered there. In this matter, officials including the District Education Officer of Ahmedabad reached Dariyapur police station to lodge a complaint.

Sandeep Patil’s Experience & Acharya Sangh Chief’s Response

Teacher Sandeep Patil told that when he reached Sultan Syed’s mosque located in Sultan’s Mohalla with his team, the mosque there was closed. He tried to take a photo. Due to this, more than 10 people attacked him. Later 100-150 people reached there. Women were also included in this. The teacher alleged that he was threatened with being taken to the street and killed. I had gone there for the work assigned to me, now I am complaining about it in the police station.

On the other hand, Acharya Sangh chief Rakesh Pandya said that this incident is very sad for the society. A teacher or Acharya tries to provide information related to public interest to the government. But, if they are sent to a sensitive area without any security, then it will be difficult to work. In such cases, if we have to make demands from the state or central government, we will do so.

Statewide Survey of Madrassas : Background and Purpose

A survey of madrassas is being conducted by the Education Department in the entire state. Under this, a large number of madrassas have been mapped. At the same time, this work is going on in many districts. According to the information, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sent summons to the Chief Secretary of Gujarat. In this, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked to conduct a survey of the students studying in all the schools of the state. It has been mentioned in the summons that it is mandatory for the students studying in madrassas to take general education. For this reason, a survey of all the madrassas is being conducted to check whether the children studying in madrassas are receiving normal education or not. A report in this regard will be prepared and submitted to the education department. School Board Executive Officer LD Desai said that the state government is concerned about providing primary education to children along with religious education. Desai said that under the circular of NCPCR, the education department of the state government has started a survey of the religious education being given to the children in Ahmedabad. Under the Right to Education Act 2009, children should get free education under Section 3 of Chapter 2.

The government has no objection to religious education being given to children. But the state government is concerned about the fact that children should get primary education as a fundamental right. A team of 2 members is conducting survey in all the madrassas. According to officials, there are 1200 madrassas in the state, which include 175 in Ahmedabad city and 30 in rural areas.

Survey work going on in the districts

Different teams are surveying madrassas in Gir Somnath district. According to the list of the state government, the number of madrassas functioning in Gir Somnath district is 18. Of these, there are 12 in Veraval, 4 in Kodinar and 2 in Una. According to the circular, 11 surveys have been conducted so far. The list of 97 madrassas in Banaskantha has been given to the education department. In this, survey of 5 madrassas in Deesa has been done. Similarly, 6 teams have reached 3 tehsils of Sabarkantha to investigate. Six teams are investigating in Khedbrahma, Poshina and Vijayanagar of Sabarkantha district. Name of the person running the Madrasa, name of the trust or institution, name of the institution approving the Madrasa, number of rooms in the Madrasa, time for imparting religious education, source of finance for paying salaries to teachers, number of people receiving education. Information about age of children, number of children studying in other schools etc.
